Big Bear Ski Resort
The Big Bear Ski Resort, situated in the San Bernardino National Forest, 90 miles east of Los Angeles promises the best skiing experience closest to Southern California. Not to be confused with Bear Valley, the Big Bear Ski Resort is spread over three peaks at around 8,000 feet. It offers the best skiing experience and challenges for even the most advanced skier – from two mile bumpy run to three board terrain parks. The snow however can be hardly packed, especially on sun-soaked slopes since most of it is artificial rather than natural. The Big Bear appears to be a mountain that’s ready for more development or one that’s consciously avoiding modernization. It’s all evident from its three canyon lands: Goldmine, Bow and Deer that have been left untouched in pristine condition. These offer a vintage backcountry style skiing, perhaps the only in South California. The snow coverage may be irregular and thin in a few spots though a good winter storm takes care of that problem, enabling superb off-piste snow riding.
All major equipment, including High Performance demo sets are easily available on rent. What’s more it even offers an online rental form download service whereby customers can download the rental form and fill it up even before actually coming to the mountains, thus saving a lot of hassle and time! This resort ensures you spend most of your time on the slopes. Anyone aged 4 years or above can get instructions from the local ski school. It has a number of training programs, from basic elementary lessons for beginners to advanced levels for those looking to further hone their skills. Customers can select one that suits them best.
Apart from the delightful skiing experience, visitors can expect a number of other services as well. The Big Bear Ski Resort is host to around fourteen restaurants that serve a wide variety of cuisine, ranging from Asian to the spicy Mexican palette. The various lounges and espresso bars are the favourite hangout zones of the patrons for some drinks and music.
The Big Bear Ski Resort is well connected by a number of major highways and surrounded by a number of motels, hotels and cabins within a 10 mile radius. Visitors can also make the 90 miles drive to Los Angeles. You can take a road trip with this resort for your favourite eating joints.
