Miniature Crochet

In need of a new hobby?
I know everyone asks… But here are my details.
I’m 50 and female. Previous and current hobbies: crochet, knitting, macrame, miniatures, cross-stitch, needlework of all sorts, quilting, dancing, sewing, reading, computer programming, ceramics, theatrical productions.
I need something that won’t be too hard on my hands (which are getting older at a rapid pace). I’m not athletic. I don’t have much money. I’d love it if I could meet some new people, but I live in a rural area with not many opportunities (“HI” to anyone in Humboldt County!)
I guess I’m looking for something that’s a bit off-the-wall. I like creating things, but then what do you do with them? A girl can only use so many chotchkies!
All ideas considered!
I’d say polymer clay. It’s not expensive and it can make incredible jewelry, sculptures, bowls, etc. There are guilds all over North America that love to teach. I’ve never encountered a more generous group of crafters. They are quick to share techniques and teach whatever you want to learn.
One of the first things I learned was to cover pens. In one lesson I was making designer look pens for only pennies.
Yahoo has tons of groups. The tools are very basic and the results are wonderful.
Polymer clay has changed so much since it came out in the early 90′s. It can make faux anything. The jewelry, and pens always make great gifts.
